A Word of Praise or Glory

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

For over three centuries, believers have sung that simple chorus in worship to the Lord. We have typically called it "The Doxology," which literally means "a word of praise or glory," and we have used it within our worship services after the offering or before the congregational dismissal. Just this past week, Bro. John led us in a rendition of the song at the close of staff meeting. (Unfortunately, our vocal interpretation of it inspired neither awe nor joy.)

If you haven't considered the chorus lately, take a moment to reflect on its' straightforward, unadorned message. There is an insistence on praise and and gratitude are themes readily apparent within the text. In addition, all people and beings are invited to participate in the glorifying effort by praising the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. What a brief yet powerful message!

All of us are aware of the approaching holiday season. We are especially cognizant of Thanksgiving and its emphasis. As we enter this time, I want to encourage you to embrace this simple message. Don't worry about all the formalities of worship. Instead, allow your heart to overflow in unbridled joy. In simplicity, just utter praise to your Savior and Lord! Do it personally, and do it corporately with your physical and spiritual families.

Blessings that have flowed into my personal life....
My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,
His grace to save and sustain me,
His daily assurance of love,
My faithful and compassionate wife,
My loving and exciting children,
His supportive, encouraging church,
My eternal purpose,
A job I love,
A hope I have,
