Commit Yourself to the Cross this Easter Week

As I write this article, I’ve just completed one of the most spiritually satisfying weeks of my life, and I’m looking forward to another one. This past week, God gave me the opportunity to lead our Easter Bible study entitled, “Cries from the Cross.” We had great crowds, great food, but most importantly, we were drawn closer to the cross of Christ. For me personally, it was an intense journey back to the basics of the Lord’s suffering for you and for me.

Listen again to the Jesus’ final words on the cross:

  • "Father, forgive them, because they do know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34 HCSB).
  • "I assure you: Today you will be with Me in paradise” (Luke 23:43 HCSB).
  • "Woman, here is your son. Here is your mother” (John 19:26-27 HCSB).
  • "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46 HCSB).
  • “I’m thirsty” (John 19:28 HCSB).
  • "It is finished” (John 19:30 HCSB).
  • "Father, into Your hands, I entrust My spirit” (Luke 23:46 HCSB).

In each one of these cries, you find an aspect of Christ’s heart for those around Him and for those of us today. The Lord died for me and you. Do not forget that! When He was on the cross, we were on His mind. Commit yourself to the cross this Easter week. Allow the Lord to give you new and fresh passion for what He has done.

When you read this article, I’ll be in Nicaragua attempting to spread the message of the cross. We’ll be participating in medical clinics each day in various communities while presenting the good news that Jesus Christ died and rose again for the forgiveness of our sins. Pray for me, Betty Thomas, Mary Stagg, and the rest of the team. May this be another spiritual adventure that helps me focus on our true purpose as believers! See you this Resurrection Sunday!
