As you know, the Worship Center Building Committee has been working with an architect, Joe Fuqua, to design a Master Site Plan for our church's campus. The first phase of the process involves a facility deficiency study identifying programming needs. On Sunday night, May 16, I shared with the congregation some of the feedback we received from various ministry focus groups concerning ministry needs and desires. The following is feedback we gleaned from the meetings.
Preschool
There were smaller issues such as 1) too may cabinets in preschool area; 2) need for quicker hot water in bed baby area; 3) a place to park bye-bye buggy; 4) nursing mom's room; and 5) movement of special needs' class downstairs.
Then there were some larger issues such as 1) room for growth; 2) need for preschool worship area; 3) need for greater security; 4) the creation of a notable welcome center; 5) a teacher meeting area; and 6) a new indoor play area.
Children
The children's ministry faced some similar challenges. Because of continued growth, some facility areas are approaching capacity. Also, there is a need to address security and noise concerns (due to traffic) within children's Bible study and worship. Greater technological capability is desired as well as closer resource/supply/meeting areas.
Youth/College
Basically, these participants wanted their "own" place for worship and fellowship. They asked for more "hang out" and recreation areas as well as a worship center that is technologically equipped with great sound, lights, AV, etc.
Adults
The adults who were involved in the focus groups highlighted the need for more connect points/fellowship areas around the campus as well as greater technology in teaching areas. A true welcome center that can focus on worship guests was also discussed.
General
The addition of more parking areas should be considered. Designated parking, in particular, needs attention (senior adult / families with small children / handicap / visitors, etc.). Also, an outside beautification effort (with boundaries, signage, greenery) would be welcomed.
We need to communicate to outsiders that we have children / youth at First Baptist Church, Zachary.
We ought to consider a more contemporary / technologically advanced worship setting.
As you can see, the focus groups touched on many subjects across the ministry spectrum. In drafting a Master Site Plan, we will not be able to address every concern. Some of these issues will be met through ongoing ministries and standing committees. However, the Worship Center Building Committee appreciates all of the received input and looks forward to integrating the pertinent feedback into a Master Plan that will move His kingdom forward here in Zachary. Pray for us as we seek God's will, and feel free to share your thoughts with any committee member.
