We Are Not Professionals

This week, I was re-reading a devotion that has spoken to me time ana lime dgdin. John Piper wrote the devotion and entitled it "Brothers, We Are Not Professionals." Listen to his words:

Sweet sleep

As I write this week's article, my mind is drawn to one of the most spiritual subjects conceivable-sleep. It is a topic about which books have been written and prayers have been offered. One day, perhaps seminaries will even include classes on "sleepology" in their curricula. Personally, I have always had a deep appreciation for sleep. Indeed, I have come to regard it as a precious commodity.

How moveable are we?

How "moveable" are we? This may be a troubling question for us to contemplate. When we hear the word moveable, we normally connect it with the idea of change or transition a concept not easily accepted in our lifestyles.

The New Year

The new year obviously provides opportunity for reflection and for recommitment. We reflect on the great blessings God has given us as a church. For example, it is my belief that God has brought us closer together as a family of believers. His Spirit continues to unify us, bringing about a great sense of cooperation. He has also added new families to our body who have already begun serving.

Let Us Remember

The Psalmist proclaimed, "0 give thanks to the Lord; for he is good: his mercy endures forever" (118:1). What a privilege it is to offer our gratitude to the Savior for all of the blessings He has given! This Thanksgiving season, may we genuinely express our appreciation to Him. Moreover, may we commit ourselves to use those resources for His glory and for His kingdom's sake.

Let Us Reap

Our Lord often used agricultural terms and imagery to instruct His disciples concerning the kingdom. Take for example His parable about the sower and the seed. Jesus said that a certain sower went forth to sow his seed. As the man sowed, the seed was spread on everywhere. Some of it fell by the wayside, some on rock, some among thorns, and some on fertile ground.

Reaching in Truth

Recently, I was reading an article in Baptist Press and became troubled. The article had to do with a popular preacher and his response to a biblical/ethical question. As I marveled at the article, I also became disappointed by the ever-growing reluctance of so many to stand for biblical truth. Although I rarely do anything like this, I wanted to reproduce the report for you to read.
