Why Follow Christ?

The Bad News:

Even on a good day you're not perfect.

Romans 3:23  - For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (NIV)

Isaiah 64:6  - All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away. (NIV)

And because you're not perfect, because you have sinned, you've "earned" eternal death.

Romans 6:23  - For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (NIV)

We are God's enemies, ungodly, powerless.

Romans 5:6  - You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. (NIV)

Romans 5:10  - For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life! (NIV)

Good News:

God loved us (His enemies) so much that He died for us.

Romans 5:8  - But God demonstrates His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (NIV)

John 3:16  - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him, shall not perish but have eternal life. (NIV)

So... what now?

Confess & Believe

Romans 10:9-10  - ... if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. (NLT)

Romans 10:13  - ... for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (NLT)

If you confess and believe, you will have peace with God.

Romans 5:1  - Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,... (NIV)

And, in light of God's mercy and love, obey Him. Don't live as you did before.

Romans 12:1-2  - And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice - the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good an pleasing and perfect. (NLT)

And remember, now that you're God's child, He's forgiven you. Your sins are no more.

Romans 8:1-2  - Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.(NIV)

Hebrews 8:12  - For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more. (NIV)
