The New Year has begun with great excitement!  As a church family, we have seen increased participation and ministry opportunities.  Over the past three weeks, we have seen almost 800 in Sunday School and 900 in worship.  These have been some great times of life-changing Bible study and authentic worship.  I pray that we will see these numbers continue to rise, because behind every number, there is a person to be impacted for the Lord.  In addition, seasonal ministries such as Upward, the Ladies’ Bible Study, and Disciple Now have seen some significant moments.  Such programs allow for outreach, fellowship, and spiritual growth.  A few of us have also been working on upcoming mission endeavors, and you can feel the energy building.  And if you have driven by the church lately, you can’t help but notice the progress of “The Crossing.”  Every week, it seems like another phase of the construction is completed.

            This is a wonderful time to be a part of the work at First Baptist Church, Zachary.  But I would challenge you not to forget what we are seeking to achieve: the continual maturing of believers into the image of Christ.  As Paul declared to the Corinthians, Jesus Christ is the foundation of our church.  He is the basis of what we do, and we advance His kingdom through His resources.  It is important that we demonstrate wisdom and skill in reaching people for the Lord; we simply do not rely on human ingenuity and efforts to accomplish that transformation.  My faith is not in programs, buildings, or money.  It is in Christ and His Word.  We must be committed to saturating individuals with Him and His message to us.  Through this intentional effort, we can see further transformation and assist others in their process of maturing.  We have been called to an awesome task by an awesome God to an awesome church and community!  Let’s enjoy His work, and get busy about His business!
